A spring rain bounces on the sidewalk as I skip out of the house anxious to open my June bug umbrella. Momma let me wear my new sandals and a pink full-skirted dress because it's the first day of school. I'll be in the fifth grade this year and I'm proud to be growing up. I'm really excited and my heart beats to the beat of the rain as I skip all the way to the bus stop. When I arrive at the stop, all the kids are gathered in their new clothes and shoes. I immediately sense a dislike from one of the boy's because he starts laughing at my red curly hair and poking fun at my freckles. All the kids start looking at me and pointing to my hair and freckles. I pay "no" attention and act as though I don't hear them.

My heart is sinking as the school bus arrives shortly after I arrive at the bus stop. I climb aboard, grab a seat close to the front and watch as the other kids walk pass me to other seats with a smirk on their faces seats. As I look around, I'm the only one sitting alone, all the seats are full of happy smiling kids. I try to believe it's an oversight on their part. The rain is splattering against the window panes of the bus and it's crookedly streaming down the window etching different types of figures and shapes. I try to figure out what images it looks like to me. I'm deep in thoughts when a jerk of my hair causes me severe pain, and I think, "Oh, I've caught my hair in the crease of the seat." I reach my hand under my hair to bring it around to get it free. Suddenly, a yank of my hair again, I turn to see the boy who starts making fun of me at the stop pulling his hand away from my seat. I turn back and continue to look out the window and he keeps repeating the jerks the remainder of the way to school. My head is aching and the children are laughing hilariously…I don't dare look back at him or them and to say anything because I don't want to confront the kids and him.

When the bus gets to school, I jumped off and start to walk up the walkway to the school's entrance. I'm unaware he's behind me mocking my every step, I step up my walk and he sticks his foot out to trip me up and I fall down on the wet sidewalk. All the kids passing me are snickering and poking fun as some of the students make oinking sound like a pig oinking, and then, "Ha, ha, Miss Piggy fell, Miss Piggy fell. I feel a pain like I've been stabbed in my heart and the insult rings in my mind. I cannot believe this is happening to me, I didn't do a thing to any of these student but try to smile and be friendly. All of them pass me in laughter and none of them stop to help me up. I get up, my dress is wet and I've broken a strap on one of my new sandals. I want to cry but I remember a scripture I learned at Sunday School, "God is with thee in all that thou doest." (Genesis 21:22) I brush myself off and hold my head up high and walk to the school's entrance. I whisper, and pray, "God will give me the strength to make it through this terrible dreary day."

It was shortly after lunch period and I saw someone bring in a note to the teacher. She looks up, "Emily Murphy…would you please raise your hand and then come forward to accompany this young lady to the Principal's office."

I'm trembling all over inside; I haven't ever had to go to the Principal's office. I slowly walk into his office with my head down, there sits the boy and the kids who had called me those awful name and laughed at me. The principle said, "Young man someone saw you on the school bus pulling Miss Emily's hair all the way to school and you were also seen tripping her on the sidewalk." They also heard these other kids snickering, making fun, and laughing at her as she was down on the ground and not a one of you offered her a helping hand. I've contacted each of your parents and none of you will be allowed back in this school unless you're accompanied by your parents. Each one of you are to write a fifty-word apology to Miss Emily and on assembly day, each of you will be called to the podium to apologize to her in front of the entire school. If this ever happens again, you'll be suspended permanently from school for the rest of the semester. Now, I want each of you to walk up here and apologize to Miss Emily."

My days at the bus stop are now trouble free and I am getting to know a lot of friends to sit by me on the bus. I know God sent His angels to watch over me that day and I'm thankful I remembered God's word, "God is with thee in all that thou doest."

John Heinz National Wildlife Reserve is a wonderful place to go when seeking out peaceful nature in the middle of our busy lives. It also has the best fishing spot in Philadelphia, PA! If you are local, or somewhat local to Philadelphia, PA this is a great day trip. Right off Route I-95, it is very convenient to get to. If you are coming in from out of town, this is not a "camping" fishing trip. There are specific times and places only where fishing is allowed. However, right there next to the Reserve is an entire highway dedicated to hotels and motels because the busy Philadelphia airport is also right there.

About John Heinz National Wildlife Reserve

As a local, I found it funny I didn’t even realize just how large this area was or the numerous entrances. When you live near a great spot like this, sometimes you take it for granted and know only "your" entrance. There is actually ten miles of trails on this huge refuge! The rest is protected, even from the bikes. The main entrance is located at 86th Street and Lindbergh Boulevard in Philadelphia, PA, otherwise known as Southwest Philadelphia. There is biking allowed on most of the main trails, but please be sure to check this map to see if you are on the right path if you decide to do some biking, or even hiking along with your fishing.

About John Heinz National Wildlife Reserve-The Fishing Spot

If you are going to fish at this awesome fishing spot, please be sure to obey the rules. They are all put into place in order to keep this Reserve alive and thriving. They do police the area on a regular basis and will remove you if you are not compliant. I know this as fact since my daughter forgot her license one day and was checked and made to leave. To see the types of fish you will catch, what is allowed by law and other regulations, please visit this chart. There are two specific spots you are allowed to fish. The East Impoundment Area, the main dike trail and the connecting trolley bed trail. You are only to fish off of the bank in this area. No canoeing or off the platforms. However, if you are physically disabled, there is a space reserved for you to fish from. The lower deck of the observation platform provides a space for physically disabled people to enjoy their fishing from. Then there’s the Route 420 Lagoons. The Route 420 Lagoons are where I’m most familiar. On the West side of Route 420 is a paved parking lot and entrance. On the East side of Route 420 is a gravel parking lot and entrance. These entrances are located directly off of the I-95 exit for Route 420. Also located here are the canoe entrances.

About John Heinz National Wildlife Reserve-The Fishing Spot-The Laws

PA state specific law is that any persons fishing older than sixteen must have a current and valid PA Fishing License. Please visit the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission website to purchase a PA fishing license. This can be done on line or in person. The site has simple instructions on how to do so.

Refuge-specific (as specified by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service)*:

Bow fishing, spearing and netting are prohibited.
Taking of frogs, snakes and turtles is prohibited.
Fishing is prohibited from the wooded side of the impoundment and the newly acquired area on the south-side of Bartram Ave. (see map).
Fishing from the canoe ramp, boardwalk, and observation blinds is prohibited.

About John Heinz National Wildlife Reserve-Canoeing

Canoeing here is beautiful and unique. However, these refuge waters are only navigable up to two hours before, and not until two hours after tide (charts). You may call the contact station at 215-365-3118 for tidal information. There are so many species of wildlife animal and plant alike, the time will just fly by, so be careful to watch your time. As if all the nature you can see there and the fish you can catch there isn’t enough, you can click this map for a list of points of interest while canoeing.

In this paper, I will write about the following topic. Conducting a successful library and Internet search, academic honesty, effective study skills, time management and goals. I intend to use this paper as my guide for future courses.

Conducting Successful Library and Internet Searches

When conducting a library search it will be important to have a specific search strategy. First being your search with general sources and topics. This will lead you to more specific information and sources. Libraries may have different layout, however, there are common areas too. Such as reference area, book area, periodical area, audio/visual, computer area and microform areas. Search strategy can save you a lot of time and also an effective way to search for information. Keyword is also essential to conducting a search. Library’s computer database can make this easier for you. For example you can choose to search about cooking, or to limit the results you can try "Thai cooking". Keep in mind on how to use "or", "and," and "not" to narrow your searches. This is called the Boolean logic. Some library operates on Dewy Decimal system. A Dewey decimal system uses number to identify the different subject category. For example all books relating to anthropology will be under 100-199. These numbers are marked on the books, and clearly marked on the shelves. The library of Congress uses a different system. They use the subject classifications system. The different subject categories are assigned a letter instead of number. Everything else works the same way. Utilize all your sources. Librarians and library staff are very knowledgeable people who can help guide you to your topic. I like this phrase "Ask question is a willingness to learn, not a weakness". (Bishop & Kravitz, 2002 , p269).

Researching on the Internet

Conducting research on the Internet can be easy and can be complicated for some. This task requires more computer knowledge. Start with choosing your search engine; such as yahoo or google. I like using google. However, I feel searching online is somewhat similar to conducting a search in a traditional library. When conducting searches via the Internet, you should also have a search strategy. Write down a list of words that relate to your search. You can start be asking a question. The best part about conducting a search on the Internet, you can bookmark the pages instead of tote around 10 books in your basket. Remember the Boolean operators; it works the same way conducting searches on Internet. You can also request the search engine to eliminate a list. Example when searching for schools-private, when you enter the minus sign you are asking the search engine to look up all schools but private ones. This eliminates the need for you to go through hundreds of results. When you want only a specific words consider using quotation marks around the words. "Private School". The search will only contain the exact words.

Critical thinking to evaluate each source

All sources you read and find online is should be analyze and reviewed for accuracy. Check the author’s creditability; just like you would check an employee’s track record before hiring them. Review the article for bias facts; ask yourself questions about the writer. What I the writer’s position and what are they writing about. For example a Christian writing about abortion will contain bias comments. Christian was raised to believe abortion is a sin, regardless of how it was conceived. Check the source date of publication. Many rules and laws change over time. Therefore, it is important to verify the date of publication. An outdated article dated in 1999 may not contain all the facts as one that was published last year. When searching in Axia College library database, there is an option to only view peer-reviewed article. A peer-reviewed article is a writing that is first submitted to a panel of well-recognized group of people. For example, if I was assigned to draft an employee handbook. I will be sure to get a group of peer-reviewed before publishing the book. The peer group, will consist of managers from each dept as well as the board. Next I will consult with an attorney to make sure all legal employee rights are also considered.

Upholding Academic Honesty

Academic honesty is very important. This takes us to our next topic, plagiarism. Remember to cite your sources. If it is not your ideas make sure to cite them. Paraphrase to ensure you don’t commit plagiarism. Keep the 7 rules of plagiarism handy. "Attributes, quotation marks, citation, paraphrase, loyalty to source, reference list, and image citations" (Pearson Custom). The consequences of plagiarism can be very serious. Your diploma can be revoked, you can be suspended from the school. So when writing it is important to make sure to cite our sources, paraphrase whenever possible. Be true about your work. Allow sufficient amount of time to complete each assignment. When you rush you usually are in hurry and copying can happen. This is plagiarism. Whenever you are in doubt, it is best to cite it. This way you will avoid plagiarism. Common known facts does not need to be cited. Examples; they sky is blue, spring is a season for blooming flowers, and winter is cold.

Developing Effective Study Skills

Reading to understand. Understanding what you read is important, if you don’t understand what you read, it will defeat your purpose. Apply SQ3R to your daily reading.

Survey, question, read, recite and review. This is an effective reading skill for me. Understanding your characteristic will help identify your weakness. In order to develop an effective study skill you will need to implement a system to improve or remove your weakness. If one’s weak point is lack of basic computer knowledge. A weekend class to learn would be the key. My weakness is grammar. To improve, I visit Bedford website often. I practice on my grammar and take notes. I am a forgetful person, so upon reading the material I am ready with my highlighter to highlight any sentence I believe will help me later. I believe being allowed to ask good and dumb question is my key to learning. It is dumb question for someone else, but if I ask the question it is not dumb for me because I don’t know the answer. Discover your learning style. A visual learner would benefit from seeing with the eyes and hands on, while I benefit from reading the manual and doing it myself. Not everyone study the same. I notice I am an organizer and like to keep things nice and tidy. If my notes and assignment are neatly laid out, my brains are not scattered. Which allows me to concentrate and work under less pressure. Managing Time Wisely

Time management is important to succeeding in school and on the job. Everyone has the same amount of hours in a day. It all depends on how you use it. I manage and prioritize my day be analyzing the consequences. If I crave T.V. time but still need to finish the laundry, I need to understand what my consequences will be. The kids will be without clean shirts. Can I stand it when they are dirty? If I cannot imagine them going to bed with dirty clothes on, then I need to give up T.V. and get the laundry done? Or I can time myself, put the clothes in the machine before the show starts, and check on it during commercial breaks. During my long commute I catch up on news. My goal to use every minute to its fullest. I walk the treadmill for 30 minutes; I will read for 30 minutes while walking. When I run, I close my eyes and just relax while running. I also learned to let go of the small things that used to bother me. If my dividers were not perfectly aligned, I learn to ignore it. There are more important things for me to do.

Setting and Achieving Goals

I will set reasonable goals. The goals will be divided into smaller ones. For examples I want to become a manager. To do so, I need to earn the credentials and experience. With each goal, I have dates and the actions to take to achieve the goals. Giving yourself a deadline to complete the goal is much more reasonable than asap. Time will allow you to plan and achieve your goals one step at a time. I would not be able to receive my credentials overnight. So it is a 21 months process. While pursuing my degree, I will set a goal to learn more about the company’s accounting system. This can be worked around the work schedule. I will also need a commit and sacrifice a few things. Like shorter lunchtime, more work load, more overtime. All this will result in an educated me. Being educated about the company operations will help me in achieving my goals.

Conclusion

The skills I learn today, is a lifelong tool. Once I complete this course, I can take the skills I learn and apply it to the next course. I learn how to check website and reading articles for credentials. Which I did not know how to do before. I learned that referencing the source is crucial to avoid plagiarism. To successfully manage your time you need to understand the consequences. Learning about your weakness and strength will help you improve and tackle your weakest area. Developing a study skill that is truly yours is the key to good study habits. Not everyone study the same way. In order to achieve your goals you must set them first. Each goals should be broken down with a list on how to achieve them.

Image 16.0q Treadmill add concrete visual evidence to back up your text. whatever you write, it’s continuously less convincing without pictures. varied studies show that the majority folks are a lot of doubtless to believe a story or idea if there is an image accompanying the story. a picture conjointly leaves a stronger impression on us because our brain is more simply drawn to familiar real life objects or animals instead of words.
The Success Images you select to use on your web site are extraordinarily necessary as they will say a lot about you as a business. certify that you opt for images that are each eye-catching and of good quality.
